Many factors are driving the need for advanced SCR catalysts. These factors include lowered NOx emission limits, application to a wide variety of combustion processes, and the desire to limit adverse impacts associated with the installation of SCR technology. Of special interest are catalysts which can operate at unusually high temperatures, unusually low temperatures, and catalysts which use reagents other than ammonia. Special applications include catalytic air preheater baskets, particulate filters, and in-duct installations. Important catalyst design considerations include the type of fuel being burned, the available space and allowable pressure drop, the impacts associated with the reducing reagent, the application’s temperature, and the level of deNOx required. Catalysts can be designed to work as either "polishing" catalysts, which help to limit reagent slip and maximize NOx reduction, or as primary deNOx catalysts, which act as the primary method of NOx control. W. S. Hinton & Associates has ongoing research projects in several areas of advanced catalyst development. If you have a novel catalyst technology or a special application and would like to pursue catalyst development, we can assist in making the idea a technical reality.
